How to delete your search history

Deleting history is worth doing - and worth understanding. It removes records from the interfaces you can see. It does not undo the profiling those records already fed. Here is how to clear each place, then how to stop refilling them.

Google account activity

-Go to myactivity.google.com and sign in.
-Open Web & App Activity, then Delete, then choose All time.
-Repeat for YouTube History and Location History.
-Set auto-delete to 3 months so the archive stays shallow.

Bing and Microsoft account

-Open the Microsoft privacy dashboard and sign in.
-Select Search history, then Clear activity.
-Also clear Browsing history if you use Edge while signed in.

Chrome, Edge and Firefox

-Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Cmd+Shift+Delete on Mac).
-Set the time range to All time.
-Tick browsing history, cookies and cached files.
-In Chrome, note that clearing on-device history does not clear account activity - do both.

Safari, iPhone and Android

-Safari on Mac: History, then Clear History, then all history.
-iPhone: Settings, Safari, Clear History and Website Data.
-Android Chrome: menu, History, Clear browsing data, All time.
-Also clear the Google app's own history from its account menu.
