Incognito search engine: what to use instead of incognito mode

When you search in incognito, the query leaves your device, arrives at the engine, and is stored there with a timestamp and your IP address. Closing the window deletes your copy of the receipt. Theirs stays. That asymmetry is the whole issue, and it is described further in what incognito mode actually does.

• -No query log: nothing to retain, subpoena, breach or resell.
• -No profile: results are not shaped by who the engine thinks you are.
• -No identifiers: no account, no persistent cookie, no cross-session linking.
• -No local persistence: your device keeps no trace of what was searched.
• -Expiry by design: the session ends on inactivity rather than lingering.

• -Read what is retained, not what is promised - retention beats reassurance.
• -Check whether the engine proxies results or hands you to a logging partner.
• -Look for a visible erase control, because screens are an exposure surface too.
• -Prefer engines that cannot identify you, over engines that promise not to.
